Community Christian Church (DOC) and First Christian Church (DOC) Community Garden
The garden is a new joint ministry between the two congregations to combat local food
insecurity. Community Christian is providing the land for the garden and both churches have
provided volunteer labor to build, tend and financially support this ministry.
All the fresh produce harvested from the garden will be given to the First Christian Church Food
Pantry, which serves hundreds of families in the Jefferson City area each week. The goal of the
garden is to enhance the nutritional value of the food offered to those using the food pantry.
“The garden will be a visible and living expression of our shared mission to love and serve our
neighbors,” said Rev. Michael Dunn, pastor of First Christian Church. “Every tomato, pepper,
and green bean grown here is a reminder that God provides – and that we are called to share.”
Rev. Alan Bailey, pastor of Community Christian Church, added, “We are grateful that we can
make the land available for this shared ministry. This is an impactful expression of what can
happen when churches come together to live out the Gospel of Jesus.”
